1/31/2024 0 Comments Broken age sequel![]() ![]() The ending was a little shortchanged, and some of the puzzles in the second half required reasoning that sorta came out of nowhere, but playing through this game while being invested in the characters and the story was incredible. This game's been on my radar for a while, and i finally copped it during the sale. Leaving aside how unintuitive he logic required is and what the concept does to a player's immersion, (because really, how more contrived can you get than "Vella looks at a photo of a robot with some diagrams in the background, therefore Shay now knows exactly how to rewire the same robot whilst not being able to communicate with Vella in any way?") the actual puzzles used as "walls" to make you switch are completely inconsistent./r/Gaming4Gamers is an attempt to create a different gaming subreddit. How the actual implementation of that change came about is what I take issue with. True, a mechanic that never needs to be used to progress can feel like a pointless feature: I think the sentiment the developers must have obviously had to make the character swapping more integral to the core gameplay in Act 2 was well-placed in this regard. Thank you for suffering so the rest of us wouldn't have to. My commiserations for all the grief that this game caused you Kim. Yes I'm nitpicking here, but when you have Jennifer Hale in your supporting cast on top of Jack Black and Wil Wheaton playing SIDE characters, the fact that the main heroine's voice doesn't hold up in comparison is sooo jarring. The ending doesn't even give us any closure: our two protagonists just stare at each other and smile before it cuts to the credits screen with only some doodles to give us a general idea of what happened to everyone afterwards.Īnd a personal pet peeve of mine: Who else found Vella's voice acting to be just.off? It's not like the the sound quality was bad but every line had this stilted delivery that just made the conversations feel completely unnatural. How? How after delaying the 2nd act for more than a year could Tim Schafer of all people not come up with something better than this? The character switching went from a neat feature that let the player change perspectives with the agency to set their own pace for the story, to a forced gimmick needed to complete the puzzles. The puzzles went from a simple "match the key with the hole" deal to "scour every last inch for a diagram that tells you the answer." The only new environment art that isn't just a "phasing" of a previous location exists either in the last 20 minutes or in cutscenes. I thought everyone was over-exaggerating in the reviews for Part 2 but the criticism was all on point: Wow, good thing I never bought into this game at all.
